These hardened, long lasting, idler sprockets have replaceable inner ball bearings which can be easily changed making them much more economical than investing in disposable, non servicable, stamped steel sprocket designs.
Servicing is done by removing a 5000 series internal snap ring from one side of the sprocket, press the old bearing out from the opposite side, press in the new one, snap back the retaining ring and you're done.
A bench vise and a couple of appropriate sized chrome sockets work well for bearing removal, however when pressing in the new ball bearing, press against the outer race only. Don't press against the bearings sealing cover or its inner race as damage will likely occur.
Smaller sprockets are hardened to Rockwell C35-50 standards.
Larger sprockets are hardened to Rockwell C25-40 standards.
The depth of hardness is highly monitored enabling proper hardness of the sprocket tooth's working area.
